My Tacoma at
Carlsbad Raceway
This is my 97 Toyota Tacoma. Origionally purchased by me to be used as a work truck it quickly grew out of controll. Since I am afflicted with some odd disease that makes me unable to leave anything stock. I took one look at the "work truck" and decided since i was gonna be spending 8 hours a day in it that stock just wasn't gonna cut it. I added a set of chrome 16in Concept Neeper Syncro wheels wrapped in fat 225/50/zr16 Continental tires
Tacoma at
stock height with wheels. Fat belly has since been removed
With the wheels
in place I noticed the truck looked really goofy sittin all high in the
air. There was only one thing to do about that.
SLAM IT!
Not wanting to go the ghetto hack route to drop my truck I called on D.J.M suspensions. Their 3in upper control arm drop kit had just hit the market and it fit the bill perfectly. Since 3in just wasn't low enuff a set of Eibach springs were bolted into place. These took the front end down an additional 1 1/2 in. The rear was settled down by bolting on a set of 3in blocks. While I was under there I added a rear sway bar from Hellwig and Bilstien shocks for true sports car handling
With the suspension
sorted out and working awesome I decided to add a few little tricks here
and there. A HUGE open element K&N filter set up from Downey Off Road
Manufacturing and a Flowmaster cat-back exhaust system made the engine
breathe a lot easier and added a little oompf to the otherwise stock motor.
An Autometer
Monster tach and shiftlight gave me a little more info about what the motor
was doin and Carbon fiber dash inserts and Momo shift knob added a racy
yet classy look to the interior.
Somewhere along the way I also added the P.I.A.A driving lights so I could see where I was going a little better and A bra from Toyota to keep the bugs and rocks from chipping the paint. A Sony C.D player was added for those long, lonley days on the road and some cool T.R.D seat belt pads to keep the damn belts from driving me nuts.
The business that I was using the Tacoma for came to an end so I decided to have a little fun with it. Off came the shell and to the dragstrip I went. With low 16 second 1/4 ( best of 16.2 @ 85 M.P.H) mile times the little truck is by no means a muscle car. However it is faster then a lot of other import cars and trucks.
The finshing touches were added by me but paid for by someone else. I was rear-ended one day while stuck in traffic. The payout from the insurance company covered the cost of the welded in Sir Michaels roll pan and smooth tailgate.
Well thats
the saga of my Tacoma.
